Q Group Student Research PrizeThe QGroup, Austraila's leading association for practicioners and researchers of quantitiative techniques in finance and investment, has established a prize for student research in quantitative finance. A prize of $500 will be awarded in Melbourne to the best paper by a student taking 4th year Honours or Masters by course work. Our aim in offering this prize is to promote quantitative finance at the university level and to keep our members abreast of research being done by students. Applicants may be from any university in any state. However, applicants must be able to make themselves available to give a 20 minute presentation of their paper at a Q Group seminar, in Melbourne on the last Friday in November. Students must arrange transport at their own expense. The prize will be awarded to the student whose research is voted to be the best contribution at the seminar by those members of the Q Group present. Students who wish to be considered for the prize should write a detailed abstract (up to five pages) and ask a full-time faculty member of their University to submit it, along with that faculty member's recommendation, and verification of the student's status at that university. The application must be accompanied by a one page summary document written by the student briefly addressing the following: what is the issue being addressed, what was the state of knowledge on this issue before my research, what do I see as my contribution to this state of knowledge and why should it be of interest to at least some market participants. Only submissions made by faculty members will be considered. Each submission must consist of an abstract written by the student, the faculty member's recommendation and verification, the one page summary, and confirmation the student will be available to present in Melbourne at the Q Group seminar. Applications must be submitted by email, to the address below, no later than the second Friday in November each year. (November 12, in 2004). The top three submissions will be invited to present in Melbourne and will be notified a few days after the final submission date. Email to: Melbourne Sub-Committee: University faculty or staff may wish to subscribe to the email announcements list. (Only one or two messages will be sent out each year.) |
